Dog Care Tips: The Cold Winter Months

September 8, 2009 4 comments »

Nothing’s more important to your pup’s well being then its health! Here are some great tips from Schnauzer Dog on taking care of your dog in the upcoming winter months. “There are three highly common things that threaten your dogs health in the winter months. The good news is that by taking a preventive measures and following the dog care tips below, you can keep your dog happy and healthy all winter long.”

Excepts from the Article:

Avoid Dog Poisoning

… Make sure that antifreeze is stored in a sealed container and when flushing your radiator that you are quick to thoroughly wash away any spills that may occur…

Protect Your Dogs Paws

… You should know that both ice and salt can be harmful to the pads on your dogs paws. Both can damage the skin leading to tears or possible infections on the pad of the paw…

Provide Dry Bedding and Check Water Sources Regularly

… Straw is great to use for bedding because it can easily be replaced and it is a great insulator. The second thing that you must pay careful attention to if your dog stays outside in the winter months is their water bowl. A dogs water bowl will quickly freeze in winter months so you must keep a close eye on it to assure that your dog has access to fresh water…

We found these tips very helpful, and its getting to that time of year again.

So what are your thoughts, have any tips for winter dog care? Post them below!

Puppywood and the Environment – Doing our Part

Are you interested in finding ways to help protect the environment but not sure where to start? let us help. one of the easiest and most effective way to start helping immediatly is to start recycling. Almost all communities offer a recycling program. The first step is to call your waste company and ask that they drop off a recycling container to your home. It is now much easier to recycle than it was in the past. It is no longer necesary to seperate out different types of recyclable materials. Glass, Paper and plastic can all be placed inside the same container to be sorted out at the recycling center. Each plastic bottle or glass container will have an imprinted number on it to indicate if it can be recycled in your area. The Ohio DNR website provides excellent information on what recycling programs are available in your area and how you can take advantage of them. Please visit this website to find out how you can do more to protect our planet. http://ohiodnr.com/Home/where/tabid/9398/Default.aspx
